Membership increased from 4226 in 2023 to 4543 in 2024. There were 600 students with free membership and 802 students in total including paid-for memberships. We supported 265 members from low-income backgrounds with sponsored memberships, with costs for 155 members covered by central funding and the remainder by national chapters and other philanthropic donations.
The full membership figures for each Region were:
Sub-Saharan Africa 403
North Africa and the Middle East 174
Asia 544
Australasia and the Pacific 747
Eastern Europe and Central Asia 76
North America 555
Latin America and the Caribbean 282
Western Europe 1762
Total 4543
There were increases in most regions and there was also a small increase in corporate members to 78 (2023: 74).
The number of members who were able to take advantage of free membership, particularly students, is a big factor in the overall increase in membership, with the total increasing to 21% (2023: 16%). Our hope is that many students will choose to continue their memberships once they finish their studies. Discounts of 25% are available on fees as students enter the profession and we are beginning to see that some are taking advantage of this.
