In 2025, IAH strengthened its engagement with UN‑Water and UNESCO through a series of high‑level contributions to global water policy and scientific initiatives, through the LUNA Network.
IAH experts served on the taskforce for the preparations for the UN‑Water’s World Water Day and the International Year of Glacier Preservation. President Teodóra Szőcs represented the association at UNESCO‑IHP’s 50th anniversary and the 60‑year celebration of water sciences at UNESCO. IAH contributed to the UN thematic report Water and Energy Nexus, presented at the 60th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
IAH provided expert feedback on the UN‑Water Policy Brief on Transboundary Waters and contributed as editors and lead authors to the UNESCO–Cambridge volume Water Security in a Changing World. Additional inputs were provided to drafting of the UN World Water Development Report 2026 on Water and Gender and the UN WWDR 2027 Developmental Workshop on Water and Health. IAH also participated in preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference during the July 2025 planning meeting at UN Headquarters in New York.
