Looking Forward

We propose to advance our Strategy to 2030 through targeted actions that strengthen member engagement, expand educational opportunities, enhance global policy influence, and improve communication and organisational effectiveness.

A key priority is active member involvement, diversity, and inclusion. We aim to provide further financial support to national chapters, commissions, and networks to help deliver events and activities. Funding will also be made available to assist members from lower‑income backgrounds in attending the IAH World Groundwater Congress, ensuring equitable participation across the global membership. Networking among national chapters and technical groups will be promoted to encourage the sharing of good practice.

We will launch both the Lección Emilio Custodio and the IAH Distinguished Lecturer Series. The Memorandum of Understanding with GW‑P will be finalised so that implementation can begin on joint educational initiatives for member benefit. We will explore additional opportunities for outreach to broaden the awareness of groundwater education. We will promote our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) guidance, and re‑establish the Time Capsule scheme. We aim too, to develop further the mentoring programme to support early and mid‑career professionals.

We will also expand our outreach and global policy influence by through the Liaison with UN Activities (LUNA) Network, which coordinates our engagement with UN agencies. We will finalise the Memorandum of Understanding with UNESCO IHP and begin the agreed collaborative actions.

Website navigation will be improved and the events calendar expanded.

Planning for future congresses from 2027 onwards will be important, including our 2026 World Groundwater Congress, which will take place in Budapest. We will also ensure that national chapter and commission events are well publicised, with all activities incorporated into the central events calendar. We look increasingly to take account of hybrid options for our events.

We aim to commission a new Technical Insight Series paper, will continue translating our Strategic Overview Series papers, and begin updating publications where revision is needed.
