In this ‘year for groundwater’, associated with World Water Day’s campaign, ‘Groundwater – making the invisible visible’, several of our commissions and networks have been preparing essays that highlight current issues in their area of activity. These will be published in ‘Hydrogeology Journal’ in the first issue of 2023.
IAH’s MAR commission provided key support to the 11th International Symposium on Managed Aquifer Recharge (ISMAR 11), “Managed aquifer recharge: A key to sustainability” and information from this can be found at ISMAR11 – Managed Aquifer Recharge (iah.org).
Our Karst commission had an active year, with initiation of the MIKAS (Most Important Karst Aquifer’s Springs) project. This aims to run for the next three years, on a completely voluntary basis.
The Socio-Hydrogeology Group has been expanding the resources available on its website. It aims to bring together publications and materials dealing with the integration of social sciences into hydrogeology, the inclusion of local perspectives in hydrogeological assessment, notions of inter- and trans-disciplinary collaboration and research, examples of science communication related to groundwater, and approaches that incorporate the social and political nature of water.
